Joe Nelligan

The announcement comes less than a year after its acquisition of AirBorn, the connector and cable assembly company based in Texas.

Smiths Interconnect specialises in electronic components, microwave, optical and RF products and subsystems for the aerospace and defence, medical, semiconductor test and industrial markets.

“The combination of Molex’s global scale, capabilities and financial stability with Smiths Interconnect’s complementary technologies, products, customers and footprint will enable us to expand our aerospace and defense business and support customers in new and innovative ways,” said Molex’s CEO, Joe Nelligan.

It has 21 sales, R&D and manufacturing locations across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Tunisia, India, China and Singapore.

The sale of Smiths Interconnect is part of the company’s strategy to become a more focused industrial engineering company. It follows the sale of the US sub-systems business unit in October this year.

The acquisition is expected to close in the first half of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. The transaction values Smiths Interconnect at £1.3bn. The company reported earnings of $86m for the financial year 2025.

Smiths Interconnect is a subsidiary of the UK-based Smiths Group.
