Waabi raises $1bn

Waabi Innovation, the Canadian autonomous driving software  company, has raised $1 billion – with $750 million coning from Khosla Ventures, G2 Venture Partners, Nvidia, Volvo, Porsche and Blackrock plus  $250 million from Uber, its robotaxi partner.

Waabi is to equip 25,000 robotaxis with its software for deployment on the  Uber platform.

Waabi is to use the same software it has developed for self-driving trucks to equip the robotaxis.

Waabi’s technology is for vehicles equipped  with multiple sensors to navigate. It does not rely on extensive mapping or training on multiple scenarios.

The company has  a deal with Volvo to provide its technology for Volvo’s trucks.
