12 x 12mm mosfets vie with TOLL and TOLT in automotive

Nexperia has four announced 100V automotive mosfets in a 12 x 12mm CCPAK1212 legged SMD package.

This package saves “up to 40% PCB space compared to traditional TOLL or TOLT-packaged alternatives”, according to the company.

There are bottom-cooled (CCPAK1212) and top-cooled (CCPAK1212i, pictured) versions (see table below).


On-resistance is between 0.99 and 1.35mΩ, depending on the part, and a copper clip structure inside helps to reduce junction-to-mounting-base thermal resistance to 0.1°C/W (max) in at least two of the parts.


Safe operating area can be as high as 400A at 100V.

Why 100V?

“Automotive OEMs [original equipment manufacturers]are moving from 12 V to 48 V sub-systems to reduce the weight of xEV platforms,” said Nexperia. “With on-resistance as low as 0.99mΩ and safe current above 460A [these devices are] ideally suited for thermally demanding 48V applications including on-board chargers, traction inverters and battery management systems.”

Qualification is to AEC-Q101.

In addition to passenger vehicles, the company expects the mosfets to find use in two and three-wheel e-mobility, and industrial settings.
