Imagination diversifies into design and verification services

MIPS - Imagination

IMG Edge is targeted at reducing time to market and total cost of ownership and includes an extensive get-to-market support package to address the complex and expensive challenges involved when bringing compute-focused SoCs to market.

Providing access to Imagination’s data centre, tools, methodologies, virtual platforms and hardware accelerators, combined with tailored and wide-ranging domain expertise, customers will save 10+ millions of dollars and months of project time.

IMG Edge consists of elements across three main areas: platforms, consultancy and methodologies. It includes state-of-the-art design, verification and validation solutions, backed by consultancy and Imagination’s end-to-end design and verification expertise in delivering everything from the lowest-level hardware components to complex consumer devices.

IMG Edge is fully personalised to meet the individual requirements of its customers and their key markets, such as automotive, consumer, industrial, mobile and security.

One key methodology in IMG Edge answers a perennial problem  – how to speedily verify complex control logic and math together in the datapath-heavy designs, as used by the compute-centric SoCs that sit at the heart of products targeting key markets.

The methodology handles complex 64-bit ALUs, while delivering an absolute data consistency proof. IMG Edge contains several advanced methodologies, not all publicly disclosed.

Without IMG Edge With IMG Edge
Design 1 A bounded 1200-cycle proof in 30 mins Full convergence in 2 seconds
Design 2 A bounded 27-cycle proof in 12 hours Full convergence in 9 seconds
Design 3 No progress by any vendor Full convergence in 14 seconds
Design 4 No progress by any vendor Full convergence in 30 seconds

Colin McKellar, vice president of verification platforms, Imagination, says: “We believe IMG Edge is a game-changer, enabling users to cut out deep bugs early in the verification process, saving companies time and greatly reducing their costs.”
