50mm acrylic collimators for CoB LEDs

Gaggione has created a series of 50mm acrylic optical collimators for LED lighting.

Gaggione HADAR50V very large beam colimator

Called HADAR50, they are intended to be used with white and tuneable white chip-on-board LEDs with light emitting diameters between 6mm and 16.2mm.

They are mechanically compatible with various mounting bases and, for situations where beam angle has to be changed in the field, there is a set of clip-on front windows to modify beam angles.

The collimators are:

  • HADAR50N narrow beam ~10°
  • HADAR50M medium beam ~25°
  • HADAR50W wide beam ~30°
  • HADAR50L large beam ~40°
  • HADAR50V very large beam ~50° (photo above)
  • HADAR50Z zoom ~10° – 45°

Gaggione HADAR50Z zoom colimatorThe zoom version (left) is at least 88% efficient and is set by rotating it and its holder in seven steps over 14°. “The individual steps lock the beam and help you to adjust the same beam for each luminaire,” said the company. “HADAR50Z supports COB and dim-to-warm solutions from 3mm to 14.5mm diameter light emitting surfaces. Use HADAR50Z with our Galaxy base that is specifically designed for RGBW colour mixing applications.”

Intended to twist-and-lock onto the font of a HADAR50Hx lens holder loaded with the narrow beam ‘N’ collimator, the beam-modifying windows are:

  • Gaggione HADAR50 collimator window and holderHADAR50WF = 12°
  • HADAR50WM = 25°
  • HADAR50WW = 30°
  • HADAR50WL = 40°
  • HADAR50WV = 52°
  • HADAR50WS = 52°

As well as with the HADAR50N “you can mix and match them also with HADAR50M, W, L, V lenses to achieve the exact beam angle you want”, according to the company.

HADAR50A is a related, shallower, lens intended for wall-washing.

There are holders for several in-house and third-party bases:

  • HADAR50H10x : LLH66, Bender+Wirth
  • HADAR50H10x : Galaxy1, Galaxy2, colour mixing bases
  • HADAR50H40x : BJB 35mm
  • HADAR50H90x : Hekla

Replace ‘x’ with 0 for clear, 1 for white or 2 for black.

In June, the same company announced a series of lenses to make narrow beams with sharp outer cut-offs.
