They can also join Career Spotlight sessions and have the opportunity to network with other students interested in a career in electronic engineering.<\/p><div class=\"elect-post-content-2\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"elect-764191931\"><div id=\"DFP-EW-InRead1-Mobile\">\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"> if ($(window).width() <= 768) { googletag.display('DFP-EW-InRead1-Mobile'); } <\/script>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-849796\" src=\"https:\/\/static.electronicsweekly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/11131005\/Stewart-Edmonson-UK-ESF-300x254.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.electronicsweekly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/11131005\/Stewart-Edmonson-UK-ESF-300x254.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.electronicsweekly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/11131005\/Stewart-Edmonson-UK-ESF.jpg 543w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Stewart Edmondson, CEO of UKESF shared some UCAS statistics: while 56% of undergraduates in the UK are female, they make up only 18.5% of engineering undergraduates and just 11.5% of students studying electronics.<\/p>\n<p>Apple works with the UKESF and has sponsored 400 girls and vocational visits to universities. Esther Hare, senior director of worldwide developer marketing at Apple, herself a computer science graduate, welcomed some of this year\u2019s intake to Apple\u2019s London office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are really proud of this partnership \u00a0. . . it is really special,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s important for girls to have an opportunity to see and visit these universities and have an idea of what vocations are available, [and] see what it could be like in a degree environment in an engineering role.<\/p>\n<p>The addition of a mentorship programme allows access to Apple mentor, themselves engineers who can tell students why they chose their degree subject and their own career paths.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur support has meant there are 18 year 12 and 13 students in the mentoring programme, getting access to mentoring and access to some of the Women in STEM programmes at universities and really getting an idea of what a career might look like,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><em>See also<\/em>: <a rel=\"image\" href=\"https:\/\/www.electronicsweekly.com\/news\/ukesf-apple-partner-for-girls-into-electronics-programme-2023-02\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UKESF, Apple partner for \u2018Girls into Electronics\u2019 programme<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Apple is once again partnering with the UK Electronics Skills Foundation (UKESF) for its Girls Into Electronics initiative.
