Over the next three years, total expenditure will be $374bn, said Clark Tseng, director of industry research and statistics at\u00a0<a rel=\"image\" href=\"http:\/\/www.semi.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">SEMI<\/a> (pictured), speaking at <a rel=\"image\" href=\"http:\/\/www.semiconwest.org\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Semicon West<\/a> in Phoenix, Arizona.<\/p><div class=\"elect-test\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"elect-808089423\"><div id=\"DFP-EW-InRead1\">\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"> if ($(window).width() > 768) { googletag.display('DFP-EW-InRead1'); } <\/script>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<BR>\r\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cTo put this number into perspective, the total semiconductor industry capex is around $280bn, so you can imagine how much of this capex will be channeled into the infrastructure, semiconductors, AI semiconductors and all the hardware that is going to be built around AI,\u201d he said.<\/p><div class=\"elect-post-content-2\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"elect-364668848\"><div id=\"DFP-EW-InRead1-Mobile\">\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"> if ($(window).width() <= 768) { googletag.display('DFP-EW-InRead1-Mobile'); } <\/script>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cWe believe AI semiconductors accounts for almost $230bn-$250bn, that is a major share of the total semiconductor sales,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The cyclical nature of the semiconductor industry means that the growth rate will taper but despite that SEMI projects that the industry will register over $1trn by 2030. \u201cBy then, we expect AI semiconductors\u2019 share to be close to 50%, about $500bn,\u201d said Tseng.<\/p>\n<p>AI investment is beginning to be seen at the edge where it will provide more localised processing in vehicles, smart cities and automation, Tseng explained. \u201cInference will no longer be limited to the datacentre, but will spread to the cloud and the edge in the next three to five years.
