Uber will kick in another $300m if certain milestones are met.<\/p><div class=\"elect-test\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"elect-1679336837\"><div id=\"DFP-EW-InRead1\">\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"> if ($(window).width() > 768) { googletag.display('DFP-EW-InRead1'); } <\/script>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<BR>\r\n<\/div>\n<p>In 2024 Wayve raised $1.05bn from investors including Microsoft, Nvidia and Softbank, taking its total investment since its founding in 2017 by two Cambridge PhDs, Alex Kendall and Amar Shah, \u00a0to $1.3bn.<\/p><div class=\"elect-post-content-2\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"elect-1420273487\"><div id=\"DFP-EW-InRead1-Mobile\">\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"> if ($(window).width() <= 768) { googletag.display('DFP-EW-InRead1-Mobile'); } <\/script>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n<p>It has had backing from Mercedes, Nissan and Stellantis.<\/p>\n<p>Wayve\u2019s AI is designed as a foundation model capable of being applied to different countries, different road regulations and different vehicles with minimal additional training.<\/p>\n<p>In June last year Uber and Wayve announced that they would be trialling self-driving cars in London.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-889991 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/static.electronicsweekly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/25021619\/IMG_1783.webp\" alt=\"Wayve raises $1.5bn to roll-out robotaxis in London\" width=\"800\" height=\"485\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.electronicsweekly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/25021619\/IMG_1783.webp 800w, https:\/\/static.electronicsweekly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/25021619\/IMG_1783-300x182.webp 300w, https:\/\/static.electronicsweekly.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/25021619\/IMG_1783-768x466.webp 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Wayve&#8217;s software enables autonomous driving without relying on rule-based software or pre-mapped routes. It has been tested in more than 500 cities across Europe, North America and Japan.<\/p>\n<p>Nvidia and Wayve have a seven-year relationship. Nvidia invested in Wayve in 2024 and they collaborate on developing Wayve\u2019s technology, which is based on Nvidia\u2019s Drive AGX Thor technology. This is also used by China\u2019s leading self-driving car company BYD.<\/p>\n<p>Wayve\u2019s AI software aims to get cars to understand human behaviour from real-world experience.
