He is studying at Swansea University from where he expects to graduate with a Master\u2019s degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering. \u00a0He is also a UK Electronics Skills Foundation (<a rel=\"image\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ukesf.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">UKESF<\/a>) scholar.<\/p><div class=\"elect-test\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"elect-2068154848\"><div id=\"DFP-EW-InRead1\">\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"> if ($(window).width() > 768) { googletag.display('DFP-EW-InRead1'); } <\/script>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<BR>\r\n<\/div>\n<h2>Achievements<\/h2>\n<p>Osian was nominated by his mentor at the CSA in Newport, South Wales. And he shared how Osian had excelled in his time in idustry, demonstrating strong initiative. He also highlighted strong team work and consistent professionalism.<\/p><div class=\"elect-post-content-2\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"elect-540523250\"><div id=\"DFP-EW-InRead1-Mobile\">\r\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"> if ($(window).width() <= 768) { googletag.display('DFP-EW-InRead1-Mobile'); } <\/script>\r\n<\/div>\r\n<\/div>\n<p>Osian was a Photonics Engineering intern with the Catapult between August 2024 and August 2025, testing LiDAR, optical communication systems, and lasers. He demonstrated strong initiative and a positive attitude, his mentor told us &#8211; showing a keen willingness to learn. He was &#8220;proactive in seeking opportunities to enhance his skills&#8221;, showing enthusiasm for his role.<\/p>\n<p>His excellent behaviour and work ethic was also noted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Osian has excelled in his ability to adapt quickly to the working environment and collaborate effectively with team members. His consistent professionalism, reliability, and excellent interpersonal skills have set him apart, creating a positive impact on the team.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>Community<\/h2>\n<p>In terms of community work or STEM outreach, we learned that Osian has been very involved.<\/p>\n<p>For example, he participated in a Careers Fare, for Years 9 and 11 students, at Croesyceiliog school. This involved talking to students about the work of the CSA Catapult. And also about the wider compound semiconductor hub in South Wales.<\/p>\n<p>Another example was Osian taking part in the <a rel=\"image\" href=\"https:\/\/blaenau-gwent.gov.uk\/en\/news\/500-young-people-attend-steam-event\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Blaenau Gwen STEAM<\/a> event, which brought together 500 students and thirty local businesses. Specifically, he was showcasing CSA Catapult activities at the at Blaenau Gwent Learning Zone.<\/p>\n<p>Also, he participated in the <a rel=\"image\" href=\"https:\/\/csa.catapult.org.uk\/news-insights\/tech-interns-inspire-over-600-students-at-cardiff-science-festival\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Cardiff Science Festival<\/a>, encouraging school-going students to consider or get involved with a career in STEM. With 600 students taking part, they\u00a0learned how to build circuits and about the role compound semiconductors play in every day technology, such as electric cars and smart TVs.<\/p>\n<p>Osian also took part in the Innovate UK and CSA parliamentary reception. Again, this was to showcase the CSA Catapult skills programme to other members of the UK Catapult network and to MPs.<\/p>\n<p>At <a rel=\"image\" href=\"https:\/\/www.swansea.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Swansea University<\/a>, he has also presented at the institition&#8217;s Electronic and Electrical Engineering department. Speaking to an audience of scond year students, his talk covered his experience of a year in the industry.
