Elon to launch datacentre satellites from the Moon

Elon Musk has told his staff at xAI – his AI development company – that they need to build a factory on the moon to build datacentres to be launched from the moon by a catapult, reports the New York Times.

This will give xAI more computing power than its AI rivals. “If you’re moving faster than anyone else in any given technology arena, you will be the leader,” said Musk.

Elon to launch datacentre satellites from the MoonMusk has merged SpaceX with xAI to facilitate this initiative and some of the xAI founding team have left.

“Because we’ve reached a certain scale, we’re organizing the company to be more effective at this scale,” explained Musk, “and actually, when this happens, there’s some people who are better suited for the early stages of a company and less suited for the later stages.”

Musk’s ambition to colonise Mars is still intact. He  told the xAI employees that the moon is a stepping stone to Mars.

After building “a self-sustaining city on the moon,” the plan is to go to Mars and then set out into the universe to look for aliens.

  1. This reads like a work of fiction to me. Is there anything behind it?

    • If it were anyone else but Elon Musk saying this, I would think it fictional, even delusional, DB, but Musk’s achievements are so incredible you can’t be sure he hasn’t figured out a way to do it, Though even if he has, it will probably take a bit longer than he forecasts!
