The system, to deliver real‑time intelligence from devices in the field, was announced at SATShow in Washington DC. The service is aimed at both governments and companies.
“Our existing Earth observation satellites already carry IoT payloads, so we have the experience to integrate further through our ConnectedCosmos LEO constellation, with each satellite being designed and made to carry IoT capabilities,” said Danielle Edwards, VP for IoT at Open Cosmos. “Our aim is to provide a multitude of payload types within a single constellation to give our customers a completely bespoke and unique service.”
“We won’t be just providing the data from a sensor; we will provide the visual imagery to explain why that data is changing. As demand for global monitoring and connected infrastructure continues to grow, our integrated approach represents a new model for space-enabled intelligence.”
Payloads
The company highlights that each of its satellites will carry an integrated IoT payload.
The idea is that rather involving separate systems, with field data being integrated on the ground, the satellites can observe, communicate, and trigger actions in one integrated system.
ConnectedCosmos
Open Cosmos announced its layered satellite architecture, ConnectedCosmos, earlier this month at the Space-Comms Expo event in London. As mentioned, this enables the IoT service
The LEO backbone of ConnectedCosmos combines Earth Observation, point-to-point broadband, and direct-to-device IoT support. Basically, enabling users to detect threats and condition changes in real time and take action to address them.
Open Cosmos
Open Cosmos describes itself as a pan-European company with manufacturing facilities in the UK, Spain, Portugal and Greece. Its headquarters are in the Harwell Campus, pictured.
It allows third-parties to access and share space data via its mutualised OpenConstellation infrastructure and offer AI-powered data analysis from a growing range of satellite sources and analytic partners via our DataCosmos platform.
