TSMC to hike US investment to $465bn

TSMC will build another five fabs in Arizona on top of the six fabs so far announced under a new trade deal between the US and Taiwan, which will be announced shortly, report the New York Times and Wall Street Journal.

The deal will hike TSMC’s investment in Arizona from the current $165bn to a total of $465bn.

TSMC to hike US investment to $465bnIn return for the deal the US will reduce its tariff rate on Taiwanese exports to the US to 15%.

Last week TSMC paid $197m at an auction for 900 acres of land next door to TSMC’s existing fab sites in Arizona.



As well as the planned 11 fabs, TSMC will build two  packaging plants and an R&D centre in Arizona.
