The abandoned project was an extension to the Abilene site being built by Oracle and OpenAI. The reasons for dropping it were reported by Bloomberg to be disagreement over the financing arrangements and OpenAI’s changing needs.

Meta is said to be interested in taking over the project’s site.

Three other Stargate sites have been announced – in New Mexico, Ohio and Shackleford, Texas – with a fourth one chosen but not announced.
