Nissan joins Uber and Wayve for Tokyo robotaxi roll-out

Nissan, Uber and Wayve are to collaborate on a plan to put robotaxis on Tokyo streets this year.

The plan is to use Nissan Leaf  EVs with Wayve’s ADAS tech.

“We ​have been testing our technology throughout Japan since early 2025,” ​said Wayve CEO Alex Kendall, Nissan Leaf “partnering with Uber and Nissan to begin pilot deployment of Robotaxis allows us to ​introduce this technology in a responsible way.”

Initially the cars will contain a safety driver.

Uber and Wayve are looking at launching robotaxi services in ten cities including Tokyo and London during this year.
